The shooting of the feature film Perla (winning project 2019/20) by script writer and director Alexandra Makarová is completed. The film is being produced by GOLDEN GIRLS FILM and HAILSTONE and is being expected to premiere end of 2024/beginning of 2025. The Austrian distributor is Stadtkino Filmverleih. Currently, we are looking for the right world sales to represent the film internationally. The film is being edited by Joana Scrinzi (The Great Freedom/Cannes 2021, Sleeping with a Tiger/Berlinale 2024)
The film is Alexandras second feature film after Crush my Heart (Zerschlag mein Herz, 2018). The leading roles are played by Rebeka Poláková, Simon Schwarz, Noël Czuczor, Hilde Dalik and Carmen Diego.

Salomonowitz, whose latest feature film Sleeping with a Tiger (coop 99 filmproduktion) was screened at the Berlinale 2024 in the Forum section, developed the concept of the film and also directed it.

The film, which is an Austrian-Spanish co-production with Alba Sotorra, will premiere in 2025.
On November 20, 2023, the main award ceremony for the 7th screenplay competition "If she can see it, she can be it. Frauen*figuren jenseits der Klischees" took place at Filmcasino Vienna. Arman T. Riahi was honored with the main award for his screenplay Riot/Girl.
Focusing on "Diversity," the competition encourages a profound exploration of the cinematic portrayal of inequality in Austria. The award was endowed with 15,000€ along with dramaturgical support. Congratulations to Arman T. Riahi, who is right now in pre-production and development phase of the feature film, who is supposed to be shot in the beginning of 2025.
Excerpt from the jury's statement:
"We witness a young woman whose world is fragmented by trauma, we witness a mother who wants to leave a broken world behind to embrace a bourgeois one, and we witness her children whose world is disrupted by the arrival of their cousin. What particularly impressed us about 'Riot Girl' by Arman T. Riahi is how magic and realism are interwoven to tell a story of rebellion, empowerment, and reconciliation.
With this award, we want to encourage Arman T. Riahi to continue the courageous path of uncompromising and personal storytelling."
We are overjoyed about four fantastic awards at the Austrian Film Awards 2023 for David Wagner's feature film debut Eismayer.
Best Script - David Wagner
Best Actor in a Leading Role - Gerhard Liebmann
Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Luka Dimić
Best Music - LYLIT
With seven nominations and four awards, Eismayer was one of the winners of the evening.
We are shooting again! On 17 April 2023 the first take was made for our new film How to be Normal (WT) directed by Florian Pochlatko. His feature film debut is an explosive mixture of drama, satire and supernatural action movie and is primarily aimed at a young generation that finds itself in many of the film's themes.
How to be Normal shows what it means to grow up in a reality between Instagram, anxiety, ecstasy and escitalopram, between seemingly unlimited possibilities and the complete dissolution of the ego. Besides Luisa-Céline Gaffron in the leading role, Elke Winkens, Cornelius Obonya, Felix Kramer, Oliver Rosskopf and Lion Thomas Tatzber (and many more) enrich the cast.
We would like to thank all funding institutions who made the realisation of this project possible: the Austrian Film Institute, ÖFI+, Vienna Film Fund, ORF Film/Fernseh-Abkommen, Province of Lower Austria Department of Art and Culture, CINE ART.
How to be Normal will be filmed in Vienna and Lower Austria until the end of May and produced according to Green Filming standards.
Since the success of the world premiere in Venice 2022, Eismayer is still shown at international festivals around the world (Glasgow, Palm Springs, Gothenburg, Istanbul etc.).
The film was awarded two prizes each at the Les Arcs Film Festival 2022 and the Max Ophüls Film Festival 2023. David Wagner's film also won an audience award at the Queer Film Festival in Mezipatra and main actor Gerhard Liebmann received the acting award at Diagonale’23 for his extraordinary performance in Eismayer.
The film is scheduled for release in Germany on 1 June 2023.
VOD streaming and DVD sales with bonus material, however, have already begun on 31 March 2023.
Eismayer in the Filmladen edition is already available for pre-order on various websites, e.g. HERE.
Jury Statement FFMOP:
Sometimes you think you know what a film is about just from the two-line description. And then things turn out quite differently than they seem. A strictly regulated world, determined by harshness, drill, brutality, and a false understanding of masculinity, is credibly undermined and broken up. The military system is structured more or less the same in every country. There is a specific tone, a strict hierarchy, and relentless discipline. There is no room for love in this place. Through the convincing acting of Gerhard Liebmann, who embodies Vice Lieutenant Eismayer, and Luka Dimić as recruit Mario Falak, the barracks yard tone takes on a tender note. "I'll kill you!" turns into "It's all so nice with you." Macho bully Eismayer comes out of the closet. The love between these two men really did exist in the Austrian army. It is not always a guarantee of success to draw on a true story. Here it has been wonderfully comprehensible and cinematically precise.
In December, our TV movie Schrille Nacht (directed by Riahi Brothers and Mirjam Unger) was shown for the first time on ORF and ARTE.
It is a Christmasy, funny and emotional film consisting of seven different episodes. The film has been extremely well received by viewers and has generated good ratings.
The scripts for the individual episodes were written by Sarah Wassermair, Aleksandar Petrovic, Faris Rahoma and Arman T. Riahi, Maria Hinterkörner, Mischa Zickler, Kathrin Resetarits and Pia Hierzegger.
Among others, Faris Rahoma, Julia Edtmeier, Roland Düringer, Inge Maux, Simon Schwarz, Lukas Resetarits, Ferdinand Seebacher, Sonja Chan, Susi Stach, Dietrich Siegl, Maddalena Hirschal, Aleksandar Petrovic, Martin Leutgeb, Kathrin Resetarits, Martina Ebm, Damyan Andreev, Klaus Rott, Margarethe Tiesel, Helene Stupnicki, Sebastian Wendelin and Rafael Schuchter were in front of the camera.
(and who knows... maybe next year there will be a Christmas miracle with even more episodes...)
On 4 September, David Wagner's feature film debut, the army drama Eismayer, celebrated its world premiere at the Venice International Critics' Week - Settimana Internationale della Critica 2022 on Lido, emotional applause and standing ovations included.
A few days later, the film was awarded the IWonderfull main prize for Best Film in the section, as well as the Silver Ship for the best One True Pairing assigned to a couple of characters by the Fanheart3 Association.
In addition to director David Wagner and producers Arash T. Riahi and Sabine Gruber, not only the two leading actors Gerhard Liebmann and Luka Dimić were present in Venice, but also the real-life role models Charles and Mario Falak-Eismayer, on whose real life and love story the film is largely based.
In their statement the jury of the IWonderfull Grand Prize writes:
This first work, mature and surprisingly coherent on many levels (acting, setting, direction) is an exceptional example of effective, direct and seamless storytelling. The film accepts the challenge of conquering one of the last institutional bulwarks of homophobia: the army. Describing the realm of self-discipline and mere obedience, it represents a surprisingly genuine and calm reflection on the nature of our feelings, on their connection with our bodies, our attitudes and our beliefs. A film about the “courage to overcome” and about coming out, about knowing yourself and others.

The filming of Eismayer by David Wagner is completed!
After the main shooting in summer, the winter block in the Seetaler Alps and in the Tennen Mountains took place from mid-November - challenging and intensive shooting that has guaranteed to pay off.
Many thanks to the great crew, the breathtaking cast and the great support of the Austrian Federal Army! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Vienna Film Fund, the Austrian Film Institute, the ORF Film/Fernsehen Abkommen, Film Industry Support Austria, ZDF/ARTE, the Province of Lower Austria Art/Culture and Cineart.
We are also especially happy about the invitation to Les Arcs Film Festival 2021 in the French Alps in mid-December, where we will be able to present Eismayer in the work in progress section for the first time in an international setting. The film has been selected among more than 150 projects.
The British star director Terence Davies visited Vienna in October not only for the Viennale retrospektive dedicated to him, but also to prepare his next film "The Post Office Girl" (based on the novel by Stefan Zweig).
The feature film is planned as an international co-production and will be shot in late summer and autumn 2022, mostly in Vienna and Lower Austria, with an international and Austrian star cast.
The British world sales agency Bankside Films, which also represents Davies' current feature film Benediction, has secured the worldwide exploitation rights for the novel adaptation. The project development of "The Post Office Girl", funded by the Austrian Film Institute, Vienna Film Fund and Creative Europe Programme MEDIA, a co-production of Golden Girls producers Arash T. Riahi and Sabine Gruber with British producers Sheryl Crown and Ruth Caleb, is about to be completed successfully and the project is now in the final stages of financing.

"The Americans can't make better police films either." (Wiener Zeitung)
The Academy of Austrian Film, founded in 2009, has two new figureheads: Actress Verena Altenberger and director & producer Arash T. Riahi are the future presidential duo who representatively appear as the face of the film association. The two were elected mid-November at the Academy's general assembly to succeed Stefan Ruzowitzky and Ursula Strauss, who had held the honorary position since 2013.
In addition to representation, the tasks of the presidency also include advocating for film policy concerns. And that is what the two long-standing members of the association with its 576 members intend to do.
Arash T. Riahi: "The academy is not an interest group and does not award money - it is about a cause that is above that. That should also be the attitude: no trench warfare, no egos. Artistic creation meets democratic values. The academy should be there for everyone. Together with the great team at the Academy, Verena and I would like to build bridges."
Arman T. Riahi’s recent feature film Fox in a Hole makes international waves. The drama about prison teachers Fuchs (Aleksandar Petrović) and Berger (Maria Hofstätter) and their students not only thrills Austrian cinema-goers, but also succeeds at international film festivals.

DOC NYC, the largest documentary film festival in the USA, is showing the film in the international competition. Kassel Documentary Film & Video Festival and the Antenna Documentary Film Festival in Sydney also have the film in their programme. On top of that, Festival dei Popoli - the oldest documentary festival in Europe - will present the film on 28th of November. All the more pleasing that Fox in a Hole was able to take home two awards. The Thomas Pluch Special Jury Prize, awarded as part of the Diagonale, went to Arman T. Riahi, ex aequo with Pia Hierzegger for her screenplay for Waidmannsdank.
At the big Diagonale award ceremony on the 13th of June, Fox in a Hole editors Karina Ressler and Joana Scrinzi received the Diagonale-Award Editing'21 / Feature Film.

Born in Evin follows filmmaker and actress Maryam Zaree on her quest to find out the violent circumstances surrounding her birth inside one of the most notorious political prisons in the world. Exactly forty years have passed since the monarchy of the Shah of Iran was toppled and the Islamic Republic declared. In the 1980's Ayatollah Khomeini, the so-called religious leader, had tens of thousands of political opponents arrested, persecuted and murdered. Among them the filmmaker's parents who, after years of persecution and imprisonment try to overcome their traumatic past. Maryam Zaree faces the decades-long silence and explores her own questions about the place and the circumstances of her birth.
After its premier at the 72. Film Festival in Cannes in May 2019 our co-production Solo by Artemio Benki has been awarded and screened at a number of international festivals in 2019. The documentary won the main award at MAKEDOX Film Festival, the award for Best Czech documentary at Jihlava Film Festival and the main award at Duhok Film Festival.
End of May 2020 we received the great news that Solo won the New Talent Award at Docs Barcelona. After the tragic news of Artemio Benki`s passing in April at the age of 53 we are especially pleased that his last cinematic work, his heart's project, is being honoured, celebrated and seen in the international festival context.
Solo narrates the story of Martín, an Argentinian piano virtuoso and composer and his life within the infamous psychiatry El Borda. After four years inside, the former wunderkind tries to leave behind his mental disorder aiming to reenter life as well as the stage. The movie depicts the development of a man that ultimately manages to draw strength from his fragility.
Our co-production Little Germans, an animated documentary by Mohammad Farokhmanesh und Frank Geiger, has been nominated for the DEUTSCHEN FILMPREIS 2019. The ceremony will be held at the Berliner Palais am Funkturm on May 3rd. We are very excited to see the reactios to this extraordinary Film, that chose to cover stories about children of right-wing-extrimists as it's theme.
About Little Germans:
Our children grow up in a world ruled by extremes: the fight for democracy on one side and the call for national isolation on the other side. Little Germans combines animation and documentary to tell the story of children born into extreme right-wing families. From a young age on they are groomed to hate everything that seems "foreign". How does it feel to grow up in a world, where empathy is subsidiary and "the nation" stands above everything? And who do those "little Germans" become once they grow up?
Our incredible protagonist Laurence Rupp won the Austrian Filmaward for best Lead-actor. Congratulations! Furthermore Anton Noori wins the Austrian Filmaward for best supporting performance! Cops just won the first place at the Austrian Filmawards for the best sound design as well as the award of the youth jury at the DU FILM POLICER DE LEGE.
